Yearly Planning Time

Our yearly planning time took place in the capital Ouagadougou (Wagadoogoo). On hand were not only the Wiesmann's and ourselves but 3 of the Toussian team members plus consultants in language learning, linguistics, literacy, and translation. Scripture use. Madlen is our Language Programs Manager. Next year we will review what we have accomplished as compared to what we said we were going to do. Wilhelm didn't do much of what he thought he would do last year... He got married instead. That's allowable.

One of the guys, Daniel, who organized the Sunday School outing, wanted to show us his fonio. This is a grain that is like grass with seeds on the top. To get the seeds off the grass is cut, dried and then pounded. Since it is such hard work the best way to do it is to get all your strong guy friends together, have music and food and make a party out of it.

From time to time the fonio needs to be rearranged before work can begin again.

Balifon Having music is the only way to go and the traditional Balafon with drums give a nice good beat. The man playing the balafon also goes to our church. Balifon

It really is hot, sweaty work and usually takes all day. Wilhelm didn't get there till 5:45pm and the work had started at noon. Most times they start early in the morning.

Daniel's father has two wives. One of his mothers, is doing the cooking for the family. Wilhelm was able to eat with them. Trudi stayed at home.

Daniel also had millet growing. This has been a good year with lots of rain. As you can see the millet is now about 14-15 ft high. Around our house you can hardly see the neighbor for the millet and the corn. Millet harvest comes around Oct.-Nov. From time to time the fonio needs to be rearranged before work can begin again.
